There are two main forms of housing managed by Wentworth Community Housing:

1. Community Housing; and

2. Affordable Housing.

Wentworth, with its partner organisations, has also developed a Housing Help guide for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury areas. It has information about what to do and where to go if you have no accommodation or you are at risk of losing your current accommodation.

1. Community Housing

What is community housing?

Community housing, along with public housing and Aboriginal housing, is a type of “social” housing. Community housing offers secure, affordable, long-term rental housing for people on low to moderate incomes.

Eligibility for community housing

To apply for Community Housing with Wentworth, you must first apply to Housing NSW (public housing) and be assessed against the public housing eligibility criteria.

See Housing NSW eligibility criteria

Once Housing NSW has approved your application, you will get what is referred to as a “T” (for Tenant) number. You will also need this number to apply for community housing with Wentworth. The “T” number is proof that you are eligible.

In addition to applying for housing with Housing NSW (and getting a “T” number), you will need to complete a Wentworth Community Housing application form. Completing this application form will help Wentworth to better understand your circumstances and assess your housing need.

  • Wentworth staff can assist you with completing the application form if required. Please speak with our Customer Service Team on 4731 5851.
  • Supporting documentation (such as proof of income, medical certificates and support letters) should be provided at the time of application. You will be notified in writing if more information is needed to assess your application.

  • Applications will be assessed within 28 days of being lodged.

2. Affordable Housing

  • Ideally you will already live in the local area.
  • You should not have assets or property that could reasonably be expected to solve your housing situation.
  • You must be an Australian resident, living in Australia.
